Speech Therapy iPad APPS

Slowly and slowly this iPad therapy Apps list began to creep up until it began a life of it's own and now; a page of it's own!  Trying to remain as organized and efficient as possible, I present the SLP Therapy Apps page, as comprehensive as possible!

These Apps are very interesting to therapists.  They provide a different way of engaging students and our older clients.  They are not to replace therapy, but to utilize a unique way of engaging and explanation that sometimes people just cannot do no matter how creative we claim ourselves to be.  Some of these apps listed here, since there are literally hundreds of new ones everyday have not been tried by myself or people I know, I do not endorse the names I list.  If I have used the APP, or know someone who has, I will post those comments next to the listing itself.

Why Use Technology?
  • It's increasingly becoming more and more educationally relevant.
  • It creates another multisensory experience
  • It's motivating
  • It's engaging
  • It's easy to share for carryover/home participation
  • There are lots of free resources/APPS

Using APPS in therapy that may not even be intended for speech therapy, simulations support use of schemes, comprehension of cause/effect, provides a context for communication. Bottom line: use of APPS in therapy help to provide a context for communication, a shared context,  and scaffolding to facilitate the achievement of IEP and therapy goals.
