Literacy and Phonemic Awareness Assessment
Based on years of informal research, I came to the conclusion that there were no official phonemic awareness/literacy assessments available specifically for Speech Therapists to use in practice. Therefore, I wrote my own!
This literacy and pre-literacy assessment includes all the levels of phonemic awareness; Rhyme, onset, phoneme segmentation, phoneme in isolation in final and initial position, phoneme matching, blending, alliteration, non-word spelling, and digit naming. Pre-literate predictors such as automatized naming of colors, objects, numbers and letters are also incorporated as well as developmental milestones for each level. The assessment also contains a VERY EASY way of scoring and keeping track of where the child is on a developmental scale literacy wise, like no other assessment does. There are no complicated, convoluted scoring guides. The assessment is arranged in developmental order; meaning that the skill level is arranged in the order that the child should developmentally acquire and assigned by age/developmental level. Also, what makes this assessment unique is it's focus on the importance of item analysis vs. testing for scores.
Areas of assessment include:
Rhyme
Syllables
Nonword Spelling
Digit Naming
Automatic Skills
Sound - Letter Correspondence
Phonemic Segmentation
Phonemic Isolation
Phonemic Alliteration
Phonemic Blending
Phoneme Manipulation/Substitution
Decoding & Reading Comprehension
